Thermal Fluid Transfer / Hot Oil
Thermal fluid/hot oil systems use a heated fluid to transfer heat for industrial processes. The hot oil pump circulates the fluid through the closed loop system. Centrifugal pumps are commonly used due to their ability to pump high temperature fluids. The pump internals and sealing systems are designed for thermal stability. Typical pump construction uses cast iron casings and carbon/graphite impeller seals. The pump may have an external cooling system. The pump capacity needs to match the required flow rate and overcome the piping system resistance. Variable speed drives can control flow rate.
